In addition to some classic titles once enjoyed on Sega consoles, there are many great new Sonic titles on your Nintendo Switch. Whether you’re new to this speedy hedgehog or ready to relive some of your favorite games, this is your Sonic selection. As the last Sonic game on Sega Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure 2 sent the hedgehog out with a bang. Built to offer faster gameplay than its predecessor, Sonic Adventure 2 sees you hurtling through 3D locations loosely based on the hills of San Francisco.

Nintendo Switch Games

Sonic the Comic Online is an unofficial webcomic continuation of Sonic the Comic. It was mentioned in the video game magazine GamesTM and received positively by the alumni staff, such as Nigel Kitching, Roberto Corona and Andy Diggle. Sea3on is a fan-made continuation of the Sonic the Hedgehog animated television series, basing the plotlines on both Ben Hurst’s original notes as well as the group’s active webcomic. Ron Myrick, the executive producer of SatAM’s second season, is involved, while Johnny Gioeli of Crush 40 performed the theme song of the original series for this project. Sonic 2 Long Version is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that attempts to restore the scrapped levels from the original game’s development cycle, such as Sand Shower , Genocide City and Hidden Palace.

Although some may argue that the presentation relies too much on nostalgia, it’s hard to deny how irresistibly charming the aesthetic and feel of the game is.
Sonic has a few abilities depending on a setting the game has, from an instant shield to a drop dash and an ability from Sonic CD which I wasn’t able to puzzle out. Tails retains his ability to fly for great distances and reach out of the way platforms or avoid hazards. Knuckles is able to glide around levels and climb up the walls similar to his abilities in Sonic and Knuckles. The minute you start Sonic Mania, you start to notice that much of the game is a throwback to that classic Sonic style. The title screen starts and Sonic pops his head through the title showing off his 90s style attitude by shaking a figure at the audience, it’s a scene reminiscent of the original Sonic titles. I’ve played many of these games, having a Genesis when I was young, and then picking up both Adventures on Gamecube, as well as the 2006 entry.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear/Master System)
Sonic fans pointed to the reboot as the cause for Sonic hitting rock bottom, a curse on Sonic and subsequent games in the franchise for years to come. Shadow the Hedgehog, was a spinoff starring one of Sonic Adventure 2’s more recognizable characters. The game was enough of a departure in gameplay, with the shooting elements found in Shadow’s sequences in Sonic Adventure 2 becoming a large part of the game. Shadow the Hedgehog might have been a commercial failure, but it ended up selling well, contributing to a middling new direction for Sonic.
Sonic Origins PS4 & PS5
Long-time series composer Tomoya Ohtani has dabbled through different genres before (with some being hit-or-miss), but he’s finally perfected it here. It didn’t help that Sonic Frontiers’ marketing was not great at the start. All we saw was Sonic interacting with a lifeless, bleak-looking world without any signs of the traditional levels or Sonic’s banter with his friends.
